Privacy Policy

PrePlate.co is a dining guide. This page explains what happens with data when you visit.

What we collect

We don't have user accounts or logins. We keep our own first-party visit records — which pages were viewed, which links were clicked (like Website, Directions, Reservations, or a social icon), IP address, browser type, and referring page — so we can understand how the site is actually used. This first-party record isn't shared with or sold to anyone.

To tell one visit apart from another, we set a single first-party session cookie — a random, anonymous identifier with no personal information in it, used only to group your own page views and clicks together. It isn't used for advertising and isn't shared with any ad network or cross-site tracker.

Separately, the site uses Google's Reader Revenue Manager platform to power some of the interactive elements you may see, like a short reader survey or an optional rewarded-ad unit — described in their own sections below. Using those specific features involves Google, described below; simply reading an article or a restaurant page does not.

The site also has places where you can choose to give us information directly: the newsletter signup and the "Did we get something wrong?" note on restaurant pages. Both are covered below.

Newsletter

If you sign up for the newsletter, we collect your first name (optional) and email address. That information is sent to and stored by Mailjet, our email delivery provider, who we use to send the newsletter and manage the subscriber list. We don't sell or share this list with anyone else.

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you from the list immediately — no login or account needed.

Restaurant page feedback

Every restaurant page has a "Did we get something wrong?" link for reporting things like an outdated website, wrong social links, or a restaurant that's actually open or closed. We collect whatever you type into that note, along with which restaurant page you submitted it from. We don't ask for your name, email, or any other contact information as part of this form.

That note is stored in our database and a copy is emailed to whoever runs the site so it can be reviewed and corrected. If you choose to include your own contact information in the note itself, we may use it to follow up with you about what you reported.

Reader surveys

Some pages may show a short, optional survey asking for your opinion on the site or its coverage. Answering is entirely up to you — declining or closing it doesn't affect your ability to read anything. Survey responses are collected through Google's Reader Revenue Manager platform and are subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We use the responses in aggregate to understand what readers want more or less of; we don't ask for your name or email as part of a survey.

Rewarded ads

Some pages may offer a rewarded-ad unit — an optional way to unlock a perk by choosing to watch an ad, also delivered through Google's Reader Revenue Manager platform. Nothing on the site requires this; it's always an alternative, never a requirement to read our content. Choosing to view a rewarded ad means Google serves and measures that ad, which can involve cookies, device identifiers, and similar technology used for ad delivery, frequency, and fraud prevention, and may include personalized advertising depending on your ad settings and consent choices with Google. That processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and their advertising technology policy, not by us — we don't otherwise use interest-based advertising or ad trackers on the rest of the site.

Third parties

Pages on this site load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request directly to Google's servers to fetch them. Restaurant photos and video thumbnails are served from whatever source supplied them (which may include Google Places or YouTube) and may be hosted on third-party image services. Newsletter signups are processed by Mailjet, as described above. Surveys and rewarded ads are processed by Google, as described above. These requests are subject to those providers' own privacy practices, not ours.

Changes

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page.
